⚠️ Project Type Notice

This article applies to Section projects only. If your project uses Ladder format, please see this guide instead: Portrait Pages (Ladder Books)

🧑‍🎓Portrait Section Perks

Portrait sections allow you to automatically place portraits into a section based on rules such as grade, teacher, or homeroom. This helps organize student photos efficiently and keeps portrait pages structured as your book develops.

➕ Creating a Portrait Section

From your project dashboard, locate the Sections module on the left side.

  • Click New Section.

  • Select Portrait as the section type.

  • Click Next.

📝 Section Setup Options

If you have not yet imported portraits, you will only be able to:

  • Name your section
  • Enter the number of pages

If portraits have already been imported, additional portrait rule options will appear.

⚙️ Setting Portrait Rules

You can now (or later) choose which portraits flow into the section.

Select one or more of the following:

  • Grade
  • Teacher
  • Homeroom

The number displayed next to each option shows how many portraits match that rule.

📄 Choosing Page Count

Choose how many pages you want in the section. You can change this later, but setting it now creates your starting layout.

To help determine page count:

  • Select a number from Planned portraits per page
  • The system will recommend how many pages are needed for all portraits to fit.

Example:
If you have 100 portraits and select 25 portraits per page, the system will recommend 4 pages.

Later, you can choose a specific layout and adjust portraits per page if needed.

Click Finish to create the section.

✏️ Editing Portrait Section Rules

You can update portrait rules at any time after the section has been created.

  • Locate the portrait section in the Sections module (identified by a portrait silhouette icon).

  • Click the gear icon to the right of the section name.

  • Select Edit portrait rules.
  • Adjust Grade, Teacher, and/or Homeroom.

  • Click Save.

The section will automatically update to display portraits that match the new rules.

📚 Portrait sections streamline photo organization by automatically placing portraits where they belong, saving time while keeping your yearbook structured and accurate.
